If it is up to par in regard to this mainetenance, then I probably would be looking at the rock shaft control valve. Particularly if this is the case, you will probably want to get your hands on a manual, because there are undoubtedly bypass valves, etc. in that system, any of which may have a burr in them. You start by backing them both off so you have backlash in both, and then adjusting the LH one first to the main nut to zero backlash, and then adjusting the RH one to the LH one for the same zero backlash.One of the complaints we hear about now and then is a 4 speed transmission that “locked up” when it was shifted from one gear to another. The transmission is actually engaged in 2 gears at once. It can be several combinations, but 2nd and reverse seem popular. First, is the “why” it happened and the answer is simple.

Mitchell: Most llikely the float is sticking but it could also have developed a hole and partially filled with gasoline causing it so sink. In either case you need to rebuild it with a quality rebuild kit.With the tractor running, loosen the plug on the hydraulic pump just enough for the fluid to come out slowly, and then check for bubbles in the fluid and wait for the bubbles to stop, and then tighten the plug after the bubbles stop. Probably hasn't been done in 40 years. First one is in the shutoff valve in the bottom of the fuel tank - yes it opens with several turns like a faucet.2. A signal wire that has resistance within proper range of the reference ground. 3. Voltage. You can test the gauges without the tractor. Hook up the gauge to a power source + and - then use some resistors within the proper range, or better yet, a potentiometer to regulate the resistance to ground. ….
